Brunch in Little Italy

Brunch in Little Italy

Brunch twice in one weekend--what a treat! This time, we were headed to a spot highly highly recommended by Harriet (David's eldest): Morning Glory. Normally, we're not the kind of people to queue for breakfast, but RC had arrived early and put his name on the list (they didn't take reservations). He'd always wanted to try it, so while we waited for our table, we strolled through Little Italy.

The line-up to get onto the waiting list

Wade was also joining us, taking a break from Comic-Con. Since he used to live in Little Italy, he was curious to see if he'd recognize anything on our walk.

At one point, RC pointed out a little house. Apparently an Italian man lives there and usually sits out on his front porch greeting greeting passersby. I love that--it feels a little like real Italy.

It wasn't long before RC got the text that our table was ready. We lucked out with a booth and a view. Morning Glory's owners run several restaurants and seem to design them with Instagram in mind. I'm the wrong generation for that, but I can still appreciate that the place was visually stunning--which I suppose is the step right before an Instagram post.

Even the carved wood details in the booth were beautiful. The four of us speculated whether the shelves above were originally meant to be fully stocked. Lovely idea, though perhaps not practical.

The Food

Our brunch was both delicious and a feast for the eyes. The menu descriptions were so entertaining, I couldn't resist sharing them.

French Omelet
Goat Cheese, chives, bistro salad

A barely set, rolled-style cafe omelet. Because top toques will tell you a chef should be judged by the caliber of their omelet. We're trying to be more vulnerable in 2020, so we're okay admitting that on our worst day, our execution is less than perfect. If we blow it let us know.

Chilaquiles
Tomatillo Jalapeno Salsa, Corn Tortilla Chips, Crema Cotijia Cheese, Red Onion, jalapeno, radish, sunny up egg

Souffle Pancakes

Don't travel the best. Don't say we didn't warn you. Japan's answer to the age-old question. "How do I get more food-shaped in air in my diet?" These are our biggest culinary flex and in full transparency, they only come out perfect 8 out of 10 times. They're unpredictable so we send them to your table whenever they're ready, not sooner, not later.

Breakfast Carbonara
Bucatini Pasta, crispy pork belly, soft-poached egg, Calabrian Chili oil

An ode to our neighborhood that we think could become a sleeper hit. Spicy lush, salty and satisfying.

By the end, we all left with full bellies and happy taste buds--theperfect way to start a Sunday in Little Italy.

A dopo!
