A Perfect Last Day in Oregon

Since Kris and Russ had plans until late this evening--and with Russ leaving at 4 a.m. for a fishing trip--we decided to stick close to the house until they left. They suggested a walk at Main Gate Park, and on the way to the trailhead, we stumbled across something unexpected:  the Gresham Japanese Garden - Tsuru Island.

What a treat! The lush greenery and peaceful layout made it feel like a hidden oasis in the middle of another scorching summer day.

We hoped Main Gate Park would also provide some shade for our walk, but no such luck. The path was wide open, and with the sun high overhead, I was quickly overheating.

It didn't take long before I suggested we turn back--better to cut it short than risk heat stroke!

Family Time & Farewells

We wanted to squeeze in one last visit with Ira's mom and dad before heading out. Ira got to reclaim a few of his books they had kindly been storing, and then we enjoyed a lovely walk around the neighborhood lake with Kim and Pearl.

One last round of hugs and goodbyes and it was time to shift gears for packing.

A Taste of Lebanon

Since we were on our own for dinner, we tried a local Lebanese spot.

Everything was fresh, flavorful, and exactly what we needed before a low-key evening of packing and relaxing back at Kris & Russ's house. We even had time to watch a few episodes of the new season of Stanley Tucci's food in Italy program. It made us homesick.

Final Day in Oregon

We couldn't resist one more neighborhood walk--this time with Kris joining us for a round before heading back. Ira and I finished our step count, then wrapped up our packing.

Our last stop before the airport was dinner with Kim. We picked her up and went for Vietnamese food. The ladies all ordered #50 Lemongrass Chicken on Vermicelli Noodles, while Ira opted for pho. It was comforting to have a hearty meal before a flight that would only be offering pretzels and beverages.

As we boarded, I couldn't help but think: it was a trip filled with family, good food, books, and plenty of memories. Until next time, Oregon!

A dopo!
