If you hadn't already guessed, we are back in Italy. We've spent our first few days getting over jet lag and getting reacquainted with our adopted hometown. We landed right before Easter so we had to make sure to get groceries on our first day as the Coop was closed Saturday and Sunday.
On Monday, we were sitting at one of our favorite look out spots enjoying the view in this picture below, when we heard the church bells ringing off schedule. We realized why soon after. Coincidentally, I had just watched Conclave on the plane ride here. Now we find ourselves on the brink of a real one.
The following day, we went to visit our apartment and were happy to find some progress had been made, demolition to be exact. I think the easiest way to show you is to post the updated pictures along with the renderings.
FOYER
In these two photos, you're standing at the terrace door looking west towards the kitchen. Now that an old interior wall has been demolished you can see straight through the door on the left to the kitchen, same as in the rendering above. The doorway on the left in the rendering is the guest suite. Right now there's a hallway to the guest suite with no door.
The doorway on the right in the photo below will be closed up and that will become the back of a utility closet. You can kind of see a shadow of a door to the closet in the rendering, but you have to know to look for it.
Moving forward from the closet, the door on the angle in the rendering is to the powder room. And then the new front door is in front of that and still needs to be cut out in the photo below.
LIVING ROOM
Last fall this room was cut in half by a wall. Now that wall is gone you can see the whole room. They still have to re-open the window on the left.
KITCHEN
Walk diagonally through the living room to the far corner then turn around to see this view of the kitchen. They took the plaster off the wall to investigate the stone. Once they clean it, we will assess if we want to preserve it or re-plaster.
GUEST BATHROOM
Nothing yet has happened with the guest bathroom.
In the guest bedroom, they have removed the plaster on the wall behind us. Again to assess whether or not we want to preserve the stone wall. Now that the doors are gone, you can see all the way to the opening that will be the back of the utility closet. Kitchen door is to the left and foyer is to the right.
In the picture below, the door on the right is to the current ensuite that is taking up space on the terrace. The doorway will be replaced with a window to the terrace. And the ensuite will be replaced by the guest bathroom down the hallway towards the kitchen
TERRACE
Nothing has been done on the terrace yet as the size and shape of the terrace is not yet finalized with the Comune. More to come on that soon, we hope.
MASTER BEDROOM
In the master bedroom, they have knocked down the wall that used to separate this space into two rooms. They've also knocked down the plaster to reveal the stone wall. There is stone arch above the window and near the roof line which we are considering keeping.

MASTER BATHROOM
With the dividing wall down, you can see clear into the bathroom from the corner of the bedroom. The existing door on the left will become the window you see in the rendering. The opening to the right of the existing door will be closed off and that's where the sink will be.
That's all the updates for now, but we'll keep you posted.
A dopo!
P.S. If you read the post on Airport Art but missed the one on Los Angeles, be sure to go back and check the old posts, because you missed one, LOL!
