We spa, Yu spa

This weekend, Kimber and Rebecca flew in from Seattle. And as we often do when we get together... we spa! This time at Yu Spa. a Korean spa in the Convoy neighborhood. We could have either paid a fee for access to the saunas and baths, but we all paid for a treatment, so the saunas and baths were included. The dry saunas and relaxation room were co-ed.

The baths (in varying temperatures) are clothing optional and gender specific.

But to me, Korean spas are all about the Body Scrubs. Typically, there is a scrub room with privacy curtains, think emergency room. But instead of hospital beds there are slabs. Each has their own personal Korean scrubber lady sloughing off their dead skin using scrubber mittens before getting hosed down. I've never had it done myself, mind you, but Kimber has and she pretty much scared me off. I also suspect that my sensitive skin might scream in protest. I leave it up to you to decide. Shanda, Kimber's sister, loves it!

After the spa and to keep on theme, we ate Korean Bul-go-gi for lunch. Ours was served in a hot pot with the rice on the bottom and the meat and veggies on top. Then we were directed to pour the sauce in and mix thoroughly. So yummy!

We ended with a walk to dessert. The girls decided on ICEskimo shaved ice, perfect for this sunny and warm California day.

Toasted Coconut Shaved Ice

It looks like ice cream, but it's not. They make each flavor by hand, freeze them into a solid cylinder, then they use this machine to shave it. Check it out!

Pretty cool, huh? I thought it was going to be snow cones with flavored syrup on top. This was so much better.

The only thing left to do is take a nap 😉

A dopo!
