Lake San Marcos

On this weekend, Ira planned a trip to Lake San Marcos, the neighbourhood where his maternal grandparents lived when he was a kid. He remembered spending summers there playing tennis, swimming in the pool and visiting the local coffee shop and restaurant.

As you would expect, some things have changed. A lot of the tennis courts were converted to pickle ball and the walk to the restaurant from the old house was blocked. So we drove the long way around.

Although the name had changed, the restaurant on the water was still there. It was now run by a couple from Amalfi, which is also the name of the restaurant. The lake side of the building is now all windows which was a big improvement from the previous Quail's Inn. And the pizza was delicious!

After lunch we walked along the lake. We met the owners of the Black Swan Gondola company. They were both very nice and she let me play with her little Frenchie, "Capri", who was more than happy to let me rub her belly.

We even saw some real black swans.
It was a nice trip down memory lane for Ira. On our way back to San Diego, we stopped briefly at Torrey Pines State Park for a different look at the sea. I snapped this photo from the car.
It's a funny name for a New York Pizzeria I thought,  but what do I know?

A dopo.
