Things just grow here

It's hard not to want to just sit outside and soak in the sun. So my compromise is to go on walks every day at least after work and sometimes before work or at my lunch break too.  I have really been enjoying the plant life in the Sierra Madre neighborhood where our friends Steve and Izzy live. Someone once told me that all you have to do is stick it in the ground and it will grow in California. I'm inclined to agree with them.

Look at the size of these! That's my finger for scale.

One of my favorites, the variegated century plant right next to a jade tree just growing between the street and the sidewalk.

The ice plants are so pretty as ground cover and do so well here!

Isn't this corner lot pretty? Hopefully people take it as a compliment and aren't freaked out by my taking pictures of their yard.

I just love how big the landscaping gets, it's so impressive.

The succulents are varied, plentiful and extremely vigorous.

The other thing I noticed was that many homes lack sidewalks and instead owners have embraced a wilder more encroaching landscape style versus the traditional paved sidewalk. Izzy told me Georgie appreciates the cooler, non-paved sidewalks in the summer.

Georgie, missing his people

As a final testament to how well things grow here.

These are wisteria vine, in fact it is part of the world famous wisteria vine.

The plaque on the sidewalk says:

World's Largest Blossoming Plant
This world famous Wisteria vine, one of the 7 horticultural wonders of the world was planted in 1894 from a one gallon pot. Listed as the "World's Largest Blossoming Plant" by the "Guinness Book of World Records," it covers nearly one acre, weighs over 250 tons and has over 1,500,000 blossoms during its five week blossoming period.

A dopo!
