Snow, Steaks and Southern Cali
This was the scene outside our door a few days ago. Yes, that is snow, big, fluffy, white snow! It was very pretty to watch until the lights flickered and then went out completely. It was already cold, but with the power out, it was going to get even colder.
As it turns out, a car slid off a nearby road and took out a power pole. No power no work, so there was nothing to do except relax and pick up my book and wait. The back room had the most natural light and after Russ built a fire it was quite cozy.
The power came back just before lunch and the snow didn't stay. So things were pretty much back to normal by dinner time.
Dinner tonight was Wahoo fish steaks from Russ' catch off the west coast of Mexico. Kris made a mango salsa to go with it. Delicious! The next day, Kris used the leftovers to make a Wahoo salad that was so yummy in a sandwich or on pita chips. We had no problem at all finishing it up!
Tomorrow is packing day. Fingers crossed, it all fits. Then Saturday morning we drive all day to southern California. Our bonsai friend Steve and his girlfriend Izzy are letting us stay with them and their Rhodesian Ridgeback, Georgie. It's highly likely there will be some bonsai going on this week. With any luck Ira and I will get a chance to visit and volunteer at the bonsai collection at the Huntington Library, Art Museum and Botanical Gardens. Ted, the curator is already on high alert!
A dopo!
