Colazione, Mahlzeit, Abendessen
After breakfast in the hotel, we decided to walk through the city center before jumping in the car.
Feltre is a little village in northern Italy in the heart of the Dolomiti Bellunesi National Park. Almost everywhere you turn you can see the impressive snow-capped Dolomites.
We didn't realize how big a town Feltre was until we saw the sprawl on both sides of the main square. As it turns out, the population of Feltre is over 20,000. We were so surprised.
Then it was back in the car. We didn't stop for lunch until we reached a little roadside cafe in Austria. The man behind the counter definitely did not speak English, nor did he appreciate our asking if he did. Though he did manage to say "cash only". We pointed to what looked like a ham sandwich and ordered 3 of them. We ate outside as it was a nice day and counted ourselves lucky that we got out fairly unscathed.
Driving in Germany, we both realized that autobahn is not a specific street but just the German word for highway. And when the speed limit signs change to this symbol, that meant there was no speed limit. Though the suggested speed is 130kph if the weather is good.
We made it to Karlsruhe, Germany and the Leonardo Hotel which is conveniently located to the Jaipur Golden restaurant where we had the most delicious meal.
We ended the evening with a nice walk around the outskirts of the park across the street from our hotel. We scoped out the entry to the zoo for tomorrow morning, so we are all set.
As I was writing this post, Senior Assistant Blog Editor, Ira pointed out, that today we had breakfast in Italy (colazione), lunch in Austria (mahlzeit) and dinner in Germany (abendessen). How crazy!
A dopo!

ReplyDeleteHi Kim, it's feels so strange to us being able to drive through that many countries so quickly and Ira was even driving the speed limit!
